What is the efficiency of a heating system?
Simply speaking, the efficiency of a heating system is determined by the percentage of heat produced from fuel (i.e., gas or electrical) that are used to keep the intended conditional space warm. For a gas burning heating system, part of the heat is loss with the exhaust through the chimney. If less heat is loss with the exhaust, obviously, the higher the furnace’s efficiency is. To achieve a higher efficiency, means the flue temperature (the exhaust) must be lower. Since burning the gas produces large quantity of water, the lower the temperature of the exhaust means more water condensed inside the flue. Thus, having a corrected flue pipe installation is very important. The location of the flue pipe at exterior is govnered by the building code. 90+ can save you energy cost, but the orientation of the existing home must have right location for the exhaust to vent. Check with the contractor where the flue pipe are going to be. Check with someone who knows about the subject. So, don’t jus
