What is the effectiveness of interventions to improve adherence to antidepressant medicine in patients with unipolar depression?
This review summarised the effectiveness of patient education and collaborative care to improve adherence to antidepressants and the symptoms of depression over 2 weeks to 12 months. Patient education ranged from notifying patients of side effects, reviewing information leaflets with patients to mailed personalised information. Collaborative care is a multimodal collaborative approach affecting patient, physician and the system where interventions can include patient education, psychiatrist and psychologist involvement in care, extended nurse involvement and telehealth care.
