What is the effect of the combined oral contraceptive pill (OCP) on vaginal infections?
Oral contraceptive use has been shown to reduce the frequency of trichomonas infection, to slightly increase monilial (yeast) infections and to have no effect on bacterial vaginosis. Some women will experience a change in the nature of their vaginal discharge when initiating or switching combined oral contraceptive pills. Reassurance usually suffices if there are no characteristics of the discharge that raise concern.
