What is the educational philosophy of the degree program in Northern Virginia?
The MPIA in Northern Virginia is designed to be a student-centered degree program. The degree is organized around relevant and contemporary international policy challenges yet designed to be flexible enough to meet the needs and constraints of working professionals in the D.C. metropolitan area. We want to do everything we can to make the program serve the real-world needs of working professionals in the Commonwealth without any compromise in intellectual quality. The program is guided by four instructional principles: 1. Theory and application must be an integral part of the academic and professional education. 2. Comparative conceptual frameworks and international intellectuals are used throughout the curriculum to emphasize global perspectives. 3. Creative and active learning instructional strategies will be explored and used where appropriate. 4. The curriculum should flexibly respond to new international public policy challenges as they emerge in the twenty first century.
