What is the educational environment at Wharton like?
The Wharton educational environment may differ from that of other countries in terms of class participations. Lectures at Wharton are discussion-oriented and class participation is greatly encouraged. Class participation may account for a major portion of your grade in some classes (anywhere between 5-50%). The emphasis in class participation is on quality, not quantity. Some professors use call calling to determine part of your participation grade, i.e. ask students to participate in the discussion without notice. Dont feel uncomfortable to speak up in class because of language barriers: If English is not your native language, no one expects you to be as fluent as people whose native language is English. Come to class prepared, contribute as much as you can and dont be afraid to ask questions.
