What is the East Bay Zoological Society?
The Oakland Zoo has been managed by the East Bay Zoological Society, a 501 (c)3 non-profit organization, since 1982. In May 2005, the City of Oakland renewed the Society’s management agreement to continue operating the Oakland Zoo through October 2019. The East Bay Zoological Society is governed by a 25-member volunteer Board of Trustees that provides oversight of the organization’s mission and policies. The Society hires an Executive Director to manage the operations of the Zoo.
