3 years. INFORMATION ON MATCHING PROCESS A specially commissioned computer programme will be used to match individual students with partner medical schools (PMS). The input data for the programme are the following : • Student choices • Partner Medical School (PMS) rankings of students The programme gives 5 times greater weighting to the student choice over the PMS ranking of students. Principles upon which computer programme is based: • Each student records choices in order of preference (Data entry after collection of information on forms) • Each PMS ranks every student in the class (Data entry on receipt from PMS) • A value is calculated for each student choice on the basis: [Student Choice x 5] + [PMS Rank x 1] = Weighted Value • All the weighted values are arranged in ascending order. • The computer takes the lowest weighted value and identifies the name of the corresponding student and the PMS to which he/she has been matched.
