What is the dumbed down version of what the boer war was about?
The Boers – a rural farmer-based society made up of Dutch and German settlers. They trekked up north from the British Crown Colony (now South Africa) and set up their own two countries there. The British were against the two Boer republics – partly because they wanted them, partly because of the influence and mining issues caused… but whatever the case, the British tried to annex them yet again. The Boers initially did well against the British Empire, using hit and run tactics to tie up the vaster numbers of British forces. Eventually the British ‘interned’ Boer women and children into concentration camps, which starved off the Boer soldiers.
