What is the dual-immersion program?

0

The dual-immersion program is a Spanish language immersion program that began in the 2004-2005 school year with two classes in kindergarten and two classes in first grade. The classes are made up of 50% native Spanish speakers and 50% native English speakers. The children are immersed in Spanish-only instruction for the majority of the day and receive English Language Development (ELD) for a portion of the afternoon. While in Spanish or English instruction the teacher speaks only the designated language to all students during that portion of the day. Starting in the 2005-2006 school year second grade will be added to the program and it will continue to increase each year until sixth grade.
