What is the DPI (dots per inch) for publication images?
360 DPI is the average DPI for publications quality images. Given a file of a specific resolution, a certain final print size will tell you the DPI. For example, if an image was 1500 1200 pixels and the final image size was 5 4 inches, the DPI would be 300. Divide the width of the original image in pixels, by the width of the final image in inches. Then, divide the length of the image in pixels by the length of the image in inches. Remember, the final image will have to have the same ratio of length to width in order to look like the original image. 1500/5 = 300 and 1200/4 = 300 Another example: To print a 2100 900 pixel image at 70 30 inches, an effective DPI of 30 is needed.
