What is the Downtown Ottawa Transit Tunnel (DOTT) project?
The DOTT project is a proposed rail rapid transit line which will increase transit capacity serving downtown Ottawa. The section of Transitway on Albert and Slater streets through the downtown is the busiest in Ottawa, and is currently operating near capacity. The Transportation Master Plan (TMP) Update has identified the need for a rapid transit facility fully separated from general traffic through Ottawa’s downtown to accommodate existing and future ridership, while improving service reliability. The project will develop a preferred option to replace the existing Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system with light rail transit (LRT) between Tunney’s Pasture and Blair Road, including a tunnel under the downtown between Booth Street and the University of Ottawa. The approximately 12 km rapid transit line will have 13 transit stations.
