What is the District doing about the wait time at the inspection station?
The District is in the process of opening a second inspection station at West Virginia Avenue within the next year. The West Virginia Avenue location is undergoing renovation. When it reopens, it will be used exclusively for the inspection of buses and commercial vehicles. This would eliminate the need for these types of vehicles at the newly opened inspection station at Half Street, SE, where wait-time has been considerably reduced. In the meantime, the District has taken action to decrease wait-time at the Half Street location by extending hours, specifying times for certain vehicles which take longer than average such as taxis and buses and evaluating proposals to decrease the frequency of individual car inspections.
