What is the distinction between Qualifying and Non-Qualifying Part-Time Service?

0

When a part-time hourly or part-time per diem school employee reaches qualifying status (500 hours or 80 days), membership is mandatory in PSERS. All service for that school year must be reported and is immediately creditable for retirement purposes. Prior to the Policy, credit for non-qualifying part-time hourly or part-time per diem service (less than 500 hours or 80 days in a school year) could not be purchased. The Policy permits a member in active (qualifying) status to purchase Non-Qualifying service.
