The USB specification states that a USB cable length cannot be greater than 5m. It also specifies that there can be up to a maximum of 5 hubs on any 1 USB port. This means that the maximum allowable radius around the PC is 30m. While this will be sufficient for the majority of applications, ChronoLogic has developed a new product called the ‘Sonda’ which allows users to provide synchronous clock and timing signals across distances of up to 100m.
