What is the disease cycle for Fusarium?
The Fusarium wilt pathogen is a fungal organism that infects plants through the root system. Often it will invade the plant through wounds in the roots. The vascular system of the plant is adversely affected by the organism as it grows, thus reducing nutrient and water flow through the plant. Fusarium oxysporum is able to survive many years in the soil, while Fusarium avenaceum is commonly found in soils and is also able to survive on plant debris. The exact conditions that favour infection are not yet known, but warm dry conditions may make symptoms and yield loss more severe.
