What is the Disagreement Resolution Service (DRS)?
The SEN Assessment tries hard to resolve differences of opinion by locally arranged meeting. However, each Local Authority has to provide, by law, an independent disagreement resolution service. This service is designed to be an informal way of sorting out disagreements between parents of children with special educational needs, and the local education authority or school. Lancashire Children’s Services Authority has contracted this service out to BWGS (Boys and Girls Welfare Service) which is a children’s charity with experience of disagreement resolution. It is independent of Lancashire Education Authority, schools and parents and is able to provide a neutral stance when disagreements arise. The service is provided free of charge to parents and carers and does not affect the right to refer a case to the SEN Tribunal.
