What is the different between normal antacids like aluminium hydroxide,magnesium hydroxide, and suraflate?
Aluminium and magnesium hydroxide are very similar. They are both antacids and work by neutralising acid in the stomach. Magnesium containing antacids tend to be laxative whereas aluminium -containing antacids may be constipating. Sucralfate is different. It is used to treat ulcers, usually duodenal ulcers. It works mainly in the lining of the stomach by adhering to ulcer sites and protecting them from acids, enzymes, and bile salts. Have you tried ranitidine or omeprazole? These medicines reduce the production of stomach acid and are very effective in relieving indigestion. Speak to your pharmacist.
