What is the different between Ad-hoc and Infrastructure mode?
WiFi runs in two different modes ‘Infrastructure’ and ‘Ad-hoc’. Ad-hoc is the most basic and is usually used where no wireless infrastructure (i.e. No AP) exists. It works in a peer-to-peer type configuration where each device communicates with each other directly; this mode is only used for the smallest of networks only sharing the devices resources (i.e. files etc). Infrastructure mode is usually used in larger network installations, Client’s communicate with each other through the access point; the access point also acts as a bridge to the existing wired network allowing access to tradition resources. In a corporate environment these could include email, file, print servers and other Internet connectivity.
