The main difference in the two course is that BC covers more topics than AB. AB is no easier than BC. The classes are taught at the same level of difficulty. BC Calculus covers more topics so therefore if a student passed the BC Exam, he will receive more college credit. Also, the BC Exam offers and AB sub score. This means that a student could fail the BC portion of the Exam but still receive credit for the AB portion.
