What is the difference in a laser and an IPL (intense pulsed light)?

A laser beam is comprised of light rays that are the exact same frequency/wavelength (the longer the wavelength the slower the frequency). These light rays are synchronized so that they are all at exactly the same point of the wave cycle. It is somewhat like troops marching in step. IPLs are less intense and provide a wider spectrum of different wavelengths of light. Filters are then used to exclude unwanted wavelengths.
