What is the difference in a “Bearing Buddy” and E-Z Lube?

0

[BACK TO TOP] The term “Bearing Buddy” usually refers to a brand of grease cap that covers the end of the spindle and has a grease fitting in the center. It allows adding grease but really only gets fresh grease to the outer bearing. Improperly used, it can rupture the spindle seal. It can cause a false feeling of security for many people, because they think they don’t need to pull and repack their bearings periodically. The E-Z LUBE hub has a grease fitting but it is part of the hub which has an orifice allowing grease to go to both inner and outer bearings. It can be used to re-grease the bearings whenever they are cleaned and re-assembled. Periodic bearing pulling, checking and repacking is still needed but a little less frequently. If you have a wheel get hot and lose grease you can easily re-grease both bearings to hopefully get you to a service facility without ruining a spindle.
