• When WIM is implemented in a smart card, it resides as an application on the card. A smart card is, however, capable of holding more than one application, and thus WIM can be implemented as an additional application residing in a GSM SIM card. When this configuration is used the card is often referred to as a SIM/WIM card, or SWIM for short.
