It is a natural product, and some folks just prefer a natural product. if it is painted or finished with a stain or wood oil or other finish, in time you will need to redo the finish, paint or stain. It can also be left to turn to its natural grey patina without any extra applications, which many people find very appealing. While cedar is naturally rot and pest resistant, it does requre some care.
