What is the difference between waterproofing and damp proofing?
Damp proofing does not provide a permanent barrier where waterproofing does. Damp proofing does not offer a guarantee against water infiltration where waterproofing can offer up to a lifetime guarantee. Waterproofing is a thick membrane applied to the outside face of the foundation. It remains pliable throughout its life. Where wall ties penetrate the wall below grade, mastic should be applied with a putty knife. It is recommended that the builder use a waterproofing system, especially in areas of poor drainage or unusually wet conditions. Base foundation packages include damp proofing and a very competitive upgrade price for waterproofing with a 10 year limited warranty.
