what is the difference between venttricular hypertrophy due to exercise and due to congestive heart failure?
Exercise does not cause LVH (left ventricular hypertrophy). Poorly controlled high blood pressure over time causes the ventricle to become “thickened” or hypertrophic and sometimes stiff. Congestive heart failure can occur as a result of LVH also. Since the left ventricle is thickened and possible stiff, it doesn’t relax like it should during diastole. This means it won’t fill up with blood all the way before pumping again and then fluid can back up and cause heart failure. Any condition where the heart is compromised as an effective pump can result in heart failure. Hope this helps.
