What is the difference between underground AC and DC transmission?
There are two types of high voltage transmission lines which can be constructed underground: alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC). • Alternating Current (AC): is an electric current that reverses its direction at regularly recurring intervals. In North America, the standard for alternating current is 60 complete cycles each second. Such electricity is said to have a frequency of 60 hertz. • Direct Current (DC): is an electric current that flows in one direction only and substantially constant in value. The current supplied from a battery is direct current.
