Both Migration and Transition are about “Change”. There exists distinctions and potential relationships between the two. Migration: Migration focuses on the scope-limited practicalities of a Change, such as a move from one technology to another. Such a change is likely to bring into consideration some functional changes and other advantages which contribute to the decision to make the Change in the first place. Many Migrations are relatively minor, for example moving from one accounting software package to another. Some Migrations are significant enough to have significant Transitional implications, for example a car manufacturer moving from manual assembly to robots. Transitioning: Transition focuses on the Change affecting people, such as organisational culture, and job responsibilities.
