What is the difference between Transcervical Insemination, AI, and Surgical Implant?
Transcervical Insemination involves passing a rigid endoscope through the vagina until the cervix is visualized. Then,a catheter is placed adjacent to the endoscope and threaded into the cervix. Visualization of the cervix is necessary to aid passage of the catheter into the uterus. Semen is then injected into the uterus through the catheter. It can be done with frozen or fresh semen. A.I. refers to collecting fresh semen from the male and placing it in the vagina of the female immediately after collection. Surgical Implants are described under the FAQ “What is a surgical implant” and are usually done with frozen semen (or fresh semen on compromised males).
