What is the difference between trade and vocational school?

0
Lauren Moccio

Vocational school is a synonymous term for trade school.  They both mean the same thing: a school that teaches skills geared toward a specific job: chef, plumber, electrician, computer specialist, etc.  These schools are known as "colleges" in Canada, whereas traditional colleges and universities as they are known in the United States are just called universities.

Trade schools are usually focused on the trade itself. Vocational schools provide a broader education along with training in specific vocational areas.
