What is the difference between the various scores reported? How should they be used and interpreted?
The scores used to interpret the BASI test include raw scores, standard scores, confidence intervals of standard scores, percentile ranks, grade equivalents, age equivalents, and learning objective scores. Standard scores are used to compare an examinee’s BASI performance to his or her performance on other achievement tests. They are interval-level measures that compare different scores within the BASI test and between the BASI test and other tests. Percentile rank scores have the advantage of being easy to understand and explain. For example, a percentile rank of 55 on a BASI subtest indicates that the individual’s performance equaled or exceeded that of 55% of the standardization sample subjects in the same grade. Percentile rank scores have limitations in that they are considered an ordinal-level measure and should not be used when scores are being compared to other test scores. Raw scores and learning objective scores are helpful for seeing how many specific questions an examinee r
