The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has created a Food Guide Pyramid that gives dietary guidance for all Americans. While it encourages individualized diets through different amounts of calories and servings, it recommends the same proportions of food for all Americans. It emphasizes whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and fat-free or low-fat dairy products. It includes lean protein items and groups them together as lean meats, poultry, fish, beans, eggs, and nuts.
