What is the difference between the thesis option and the major research paper? Do I have to choose an option now?

Both programs require the same compulsory courses (Understanding Globalization, Understanding Development, Research Seminar and Global Economic Issues). The major research paper requires 4 additional elective courses (12 credits) and the thesis requires 2 additional elective courses (6 credits). The thesis is, however, a more substantial final paper. We do ask that candidates choose an option at the time of their application. This option may, however, be modified during the course of their program.
