What is the difference between the TEKS and TAKS?
The Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (also called the TEKS) is the name of the curriculum in Texas. Each public school must teach this curriculum, which defines what students should learn in every grade and subject. The TEKS can be viewed online at http://www.tea.state.tx.us/ The state tests for public school students, the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (also called TAKS), are based on the TEKS, the curriculum for which Texas teachers and students are responsible.
