WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE RYA AND SAS?

RYA qualifications with a commercial endorsement are MCA approved and meet the standards for working in the international commercial yachting industry. The local SAS (South African Sailing) qualifications are not MCA approved and will not be accepted for working overseas except on South African registered vessels. SAS qualifications are accepted by many holiday charter companies but we advise that you check with the charter company of your choice first, as an RYA qualification may be their minimum requirement. An SAS qualification (Day Skipper minimum) is compulsory by law in SA for inland and offshore recreational yachtsmen and power skippers.
