What is the difference between the Ph.D. and Dr.P.H.?

0

Traditionally, the Ph.D. has been geared for individuals more interested in a career in academic research though it prepares students for either academic, public or private sector research positions. The Dr.P.H., while equally rigorous, is designed as an advanced practitioner’s degree to prepare future leaders in public health. The Ph.D. focuses explicitly on Health Services Research. The Dr.P.H. is designed to give students additional depth in at least two of the 5 core disciplines of Public Health (beyond the M.P.H. degree). At the present time the school offers one concentration for the Dr.P.H. in Social and Behavioral Health. Plans to offer a second concentration in Epidemiology with an emphasis in Environmental Health are being made.
