What is the difference between the Natural Products Act and the Dairy Industry Act?
There are a number of key differences between these two Acts and how they operate. Dairy Farmers of Nova Scotia (DFNS) was created by an Act versus regulations as are the other Boards. DFNS authority is delegated by Council rather than by Cabinet. Regulations are made by DFNS or Council versus Council or Cabinet. Council regulates standards for milk quality and safety. Council regulates the processing of raw milk, fluid milk pricing, marketing, and milk utilization audits. DFNS manages delegated authority for production, transportation, raw milk pricing (ratified by Council) and producer licensing. The Cabinet is responsible for the sale of quota outside the province.
