What is the difference between The Lynchburg Police Department and the Lynchburg Sheriffs Office?
The Lynchburg Sheriff’s Office is responsible for providing courthouse and courtroom security for local District and Circuit Courts, serving all civil process, and transportation of prisoners. The Sheriff and his deputies also have the statutory authority to enforce the laws and ordinances of the City of Lynchburg and the Commonwealth of Virginia. The Lynchburg Police Department is the primary law enforcement agency for the City of Lynchburg. They are a 24/7 operation responding to all emergency 9-1-1 calls.
