What is the difference between the laser teeth whitening by a dental hygienist you offer and the other light-accelerated cosmetic teeth whitening systems that I see in the mall and other salons?
The principal of dental whitening is strong and safe dental peroxide, applied directly to the teeth for a period of time. In Ontario, only a Dentist or Registered Dental Hygienist is legally allowed to perform treatments intra-orally, meaning in the mouth. Thus, it is only a dental professional that is allowed to do this. The other whitening system offered in malls, festivals and some salons is a “self-administered” system, where a clear tray is filled with a type of peroxide and given to you to insert in your own mouth. You then sit under a “blue light” for 20 minutes and the treatment is done. This keeps in line with the law, and takes any responsibility away from the service provider. These systems ARE NOT recommended, and are currently being investigated by the dental community. Anything going into your mouth enters your body, and as dental professionals, we are concerned with the safety of these procedures. Further to that, our gentle, enamel-safe peroxide whitening gel is special
