What is the difference between the Japanese Language School of Greater Boston (JLS) and other private language schools?
• JLS is a Japanese supplementary school supported by the Ministry of Education in Japan. The purpose of JLS is to supplement children’s schooling with courses they would otherwise miss while living in the U.S., thereby preparing them for smooth re-entry into schools back in Japan. • The majority of students have Japanese parent(s) whose native language is Japanese. The level of Japanese proficiency is, therefore, higher than at other private schools, and the purpose for studying is different as well. • Students, whose first language is not Japanese, can take courses, Japanese as a Second Language (Japanese Language Division), covering Japanese language along with Japanese culture and customs. • We ask parents (whose first language is Japanese) to help the teachers, and we ask other parents to help in activities and events, such as book fair, etc. • It is a non-profit organization, therefore the tuition is very reasonable.
