What is the difference between the Internet and the World Wide Web (WWW)?
The Internet is an international network of interconnected computers. It was started over 30 years ago as a way to link educational, scientific, and government systems together for the free exchange of information. During the early 90s, a new language was developed to offer a standard way to display information on the Internet. It was called the Hyper Text Markup Language (HTML). This new language allowed links to be created between documents. As more and more HTML documents were created, the network of cross-linked documents became known as the World Wide Web. At the same time, new software packages known as browsers were being developed. These browsers were designed to read HTML documents and navigate the web.
