What is the difference between the IHC and CELTA?
The IHC began in International House London in 1962 to train teachers for its schools in London and Europe. This was the first English teacher trainer program of its kind in the world. In order to open the program up to more teachers. International House licenses the program to the RSA (Royal Society of Arts) in the UK and ran the RSA certificate until 1985. International House continued offering both certificates. This name was changed to the CTEFLA (Certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language to Adults). The RSA CTEFLA was replaced by the Cambridge/RSA CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) in 1996 and became the Cambridge CELTA in 2001.
