What is the difference between the Honors Educational Plan and the Miami Plan?
In addition, during Summer Orientation, you will learn about the different paths students at Miami take to earn a liberal education. A traditional strength of Miami University is its emphasis on liberal education. Liberal education refers to education in a variety of disciplines/fields of study that is designed to help students understand and creatively transform human culture and society. In particular, liberal education at Miami helps students develop key skills related to the following four principles: • Thinking Critically • Understanding Contexts • Engaging with Other Learners • Reflecting and Acting Most Miami students develop these skills through the university’s general education requirements, also known as the Miami Plan. However, University Honors Program students develop these key skills in an alternative way. Rather than fulfilling requirements in specific subject areas (e.g., English), Honors students fulfill requirements—what the Honors Program terms student learning outc
