What is the difference between the Gibson Les Paul Standard and the Les Paul Classic?
Both are great sounding guitars. There are a few differences that set these two guitars apart. The Les Paul Standard has 490R and 498T alnico pickups; the Classic has 496T and 500T ceramic humbuckers. The pickups on the Standard are a higher output pickup; the ceramic pickups on the Classic create a smoother, creamier sound. The neck on the Classic is a slim-tapered neck, compared to the rounder, fatter vintage neck on the Les Paul Standard. The neck on the Classic is also considered a faster neck. Both the Standard and the Classic provide a great amount of sustain.
