What is the difference between the Forestry Commission and the Forest Service?
The South Carolina Forestry Commission is a state agency charged with the protection, promotion, and development of South Carolina’s forestland. Some of the Commission’s most important jobs are wildfire protection and forest management services to private non-industrial landowners. The U.S. Forest Service is a federal agency which has control over federal land like the Francis Marion and Sumter National Forests.
