What is the difference between the Evette Schaeffer clarinets and the Buffet Crampons?
Answer Evette & Schaeffer clarinets are an intermediate model of clarinet made by Buffet Crampon. There are a few minor differences between the Evette & Schaeffer intermediate model clarinet, the Evette Master Model intermediate model clarinet, and the Buffet R-13 professional model clarinet. – All three instruments have identical keys – All three instruments are made in Buffet’s factory in Paris. – All three instruments are made of Grenadilla wood – All three appear identical from the outside. My understanding from speaking with several clarinet repair experts is that the R-13 plays better because it is made by the top craftsmen, uses the highest quality wood, and has tone hole undercutting, which the other models do not. The Evette Master Model is a higher quality alternative than the Evette & Schaeffer. I don’t know exactly why, but in side-by-side blind tests, both I and ten of my students invariably prefer the Evette Master Model clarinets over the Evette & Schaeffer. There is sig
