What is the difference between the EU and the EMU?
The EU is the European Union. As of 1 January 2007, there are 27 members of the European union. This is a collection of EU Member States and three non-EU countries who use the euro as a single currency. Of the 27 current members of the EU, 16 of them use the euro as their currency, and thus are collectively referred to as the EMU. A country can not issue a Euro unless it is part of the EU.
