Symptom: There are a number of different modes that the graphics drivers can run in under Windows Vista. This article summarises the different graphics modes and the terms used in other articles. Solution: Microsoft changed the underlying graphics architecture between XP and Vista. When using Vista you should have the latest Vista compatible graphics drivers installed. The Vista graphics driver can be referred to at the WDDM driver. It may still be possible to take the XP graphics driver for your graphics card and install it under Vista. This is referred to as XDDM mode. This is not a fully supported operating scenario. DisplayLink does not recommend XDDM mode. When running in WDDM mode, the Vista display can either be in Basic mode or Aero Glass.
