What is the difference between the different HD resolutions?
There are three main HD resolutions: • 480p – Although high quality, this format is not technically HDTV. 480p displays 480 lines of resolution which are progressively scanned. • 720p – This is the standard that has been adopted by ABC and FOX for their HD broadcasts. 720p has 720 lines of resolution which are progressively scanned. This has almost twice the resolution of 480p. • 1080i – This is the standard that has been adopted by PBS, NBC and CBS. 1080i has 1080 lines of resolution. This is the highest resolution available at this time. Most HDTVs have the ability to display all of these resolutions.
