What is the difference between the democracy and republic politcal systems?

A true democracy is where the people represent themselves to the government. I don’t think a true democracy ever existed, at least in recent times. As there are no representatives, everyone is on their own to propose ideas, solicit votes, and vote on ideas. Essentially, each of the people in the US would be responsible for representing themselves and voting on each issue that comes before the government. In reality, it is a highly inefficient government model. A “Republic” is a representative form of government that most people think of when they hear the word “democracy”. A Repulic is where the people appoint or elect people to represent them and their ideas to the government. As not everyone is responsible for representing their own interests, the Republic is a much more effecient form of government as a select few represent the needs of many, thus leaving individual people to dedicate their efforts somewhere else besides government.
