What is the difference between the CPA and the CMA?
The CPA license is targeted to practitioners in public accounting. The license requires passing a 2-day uniform examination and meeting a state’s experience requirements. The examination is offered twice a year. The CMA designation is targeted to practitioners in industry. The examination is a broader based examination than the CPA. The examination focuses on economics, accounting, and behavioral issues encountered by management accountants. The examination is 12 hours on-line and can be taken at the candidate’s convenience.
